Simple Syrup Recipes
The fundamental formula for a classic simple syrup is a 1:1 ratio of sugar to water. For flavored variations, such as fruit-infused or herbal syrups, the process typically involves creating a tea by simmering the desired ingredients over low heat for around 12 minutes. Afterward, the mixture is strained and allowed to cool in a mason jar before use.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup fresh blackberries (muddled)
- 1/2 cup pineapple juice
- 1/2 cup pomegranate juice
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 whole cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon grated ginger (optional)
Instructions:
- Muddle Blackberries:
In a saucepan, muddle the fresh blackberries to extract their juice.
- Simmer Ingredients:
To the muddled blackberries, add pineapple juice, pomegranate juice, and water. Simmer over medium-low heat for 10 minutes until flavors meld.
- Add Spices:
Stir in cinnamon stick, cloves, and grated ginger (if using). Simmer for 5 more minutes to infuse flavors.
- Strain and Sweeten:
Remove from heat and strain syrup to remove solids and spices. Return to low heat, add sugar, and stir until dissolved.
- Cool and Store:
Let syrup cool, then transfer to a clean bottle or jar. Refrigerate; it lasts up to two weeks.
